-First American-style shopping centre in NZ. -Opened in 1965 -Extended in 1970, upgraded in 1999 and had cinemas/restaurant complex in 2015. [1]
-2015 development is called The Brickworks. -cinema opened on 25 November 2015
-Site chosen due to the "growth potential" of New Lynn in the early 1960s.
-When idea was mooted, people had concerns that this would take business away from Avondale, anew Lynn and other West Auckland shopping streets.

-promoted by the Hammerson Group of Companies in London.

-land purchased from Bob McGrae of the Auckland Bus Company.
-building took approx 9 months at a cost of $1,000,000.
-contractors were Cubbitt Wells Ltd and Cubbitt (Overseas) Limited.
-Opened on 7-acre site in Oct 1965. 90,000 square feet of floor space. Major dept stores and specialty shops. 500+ parking spaces.
-Sister shopping centre Warringah Mall in North Sydney, opened 4 April 1963 (presumably similar design or company - book doesn't say).
-As of 1981 shopping centre had 150,000 feet of floor space, parking for 800.
-In 1981 largest shopping centre in West Auckland.
