    Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

    Permissions

    Handled here

    • Account creator (add requestview requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
    • Autopatrolled (add requestview requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
    • AutoWikiBrowser (add requestview requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
    • Confirmed (add requestview requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
    • Event coordinator (add requestview requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
    • Extended confirmed (add requestview requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
    • File mover (add requestview requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
    • Mass message sender (add requestview requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
    • New page reviewer (add requestview requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Page mover (add requestview requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
    • Pending changes reviewer (add requestview requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
    • Rollback (add requestview requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
    • Template editor (add requestview requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.

    Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

    Removal of permissions

If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.

This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

    Process

    Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.

Any editor may comment on requests for permission.

    Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

    Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

    User:Prince of Erebor

I have created 80 articles, primarily focused on Sinophone cinema and fantasy literature, with 2 currently undergoing GAN. All of my articles have been promptly reviewed, and none of them have been deleted or marked for maintenance. I am requesting autopatrolled rights to alleviate the workload of the patrollers, especially those who actively review film articles and have reviewed the majority of my articles, allowing them to allocate more time to address articles that truly require attention. As a side note, I am a veteran editor with patroller rights on Chinese Wikipedia, having authored over 200 articles, including a dozen featured and good articles. While I fully understand that there are differences in policies and MOS across different Wikipedias, I believe this demonstrates my credibility and knowledge in assessing article quality.— Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 13:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I frequently create articles on notable subjects, having authored 530 articles, with the majority facing no issues. Only three were deleted, mainly due to changes in election results affecting their notability. User:Florificapis

I got busy in real life for most of March and April, so my request was put on hold per [1]. Here is my original reason for requesting NPR permissions again.

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. I know the guidelines on notability, proper sourcing, draftifying new articles, rating talk pages using scripts, AfC, AfD, and other essential patrolling tasks. Would be quite happy to reduce the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 00:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to participate in the NPP backlog drive.

    • I have experience creating new pages as well as participating in AfD discussions.
    • Never had any blocks.

    User:TarnishedPath

I participated in the December backlog drive, being granted a trial. At the end of the trial I requested permanent NPP, which was denied with the denying admin expressing concern that I hadn't created any articles. I've since created an article about Neeraj Gupta (refer to User_talk:TarnishedPath/Archive_2#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation:_Neeraj_Gupta_(sculptor)_has_been_accepted) and been responsible for the bulk of the material in the newly created article Bruce Lehrmann‎. I had been working on Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ but someone else started work on Bruce Lehrmann‎ just as I submitted Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ to AfC so I ended up merging my work over to the mainspace article and issuing a CSD for deletion of the draft. I've continued to be semi-regularly involved with AfD. I'm applying because I got a notification a while ago that there was a backlog drive for May and I'm willing to help out a bit with that. User:Trainsskyscrapers

Hello. I was initially given a month long trial as a new page reviewer after receiving an invitation on my user page, and I've been enjoying everything so far: reviewing pages, providing feedback, sending WikiLove to new and returning users who have made exceptional first attempts, tagging issues, and resolving issues myself (that could otherwise be tagged) when I have time in an attempt to reduce the backlog. I have already been renewed once, and my second trial expires in a little over two weeks (May 26th). I'm requesting either an indefinite or longer-term ability to review new pages before my time lapses. Haven't had any behavioral issues, and I try to treat all users with respect. I will continue to help clear the backlog in the meantime. Thanks again. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:06, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ixtal, I see that you've marked only 5 pages as patrolled as a new page reviewer, which doesn't really give much of a track record to look at. I'm personally willing to give an extension for a month so that you can develop more of a record to go on, but I'll leave this open for another admin to look at. Hi! I was granted a one month trial with the NPP right and feel as though I did a decent job. I mainly focused on marking obviously acceptable articles. I didn't do a ton of reviewing, but I then again I felt like doing more than a handful a day would have been overstepping the constraints of a trial permission. If it is ok with the coordinating admins, I'd like to keep using the NPP right; feel welcome to simply renew the trial period for another month if you need more indication that I'll stick to procedure. ~ Pbritti (talk) 13:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was suggested to apply here, and I've decided to volunteer. To make this more consistent:
I'm an AFC reviewer and I mostly create articles and review articles relating to biographies, as well as biological or scientific topics. I have DYK, GA, and vast experience with AFD and other noticeboard discussions. I'd like to volunteer in new pages patrolling as well to help reduce the queue. (I most likely won't be reviewing pages daily, but whenever I do, I'd do a thorough review, and I'm very collaborative. I provide feedback and at times amend issues myself of the pages I review).
Note that I've had a name change, so certain stats tool pages might not work properly. And 3 out of 4 of my deleted pages were self delete.

    Thanks.

Was hoping to contribute with working on the backlog here. I have rollback and have been working on RCP, but looking to expand my experience a bit. Not much to brag about with new article creation, but there's a limited sample there I stand behind. I'm decently acquainted with the AfD scene, and have been working with new (often problematic) users and editors as best I can from RCP. I was removed from probationary AFC due to inactivity, but I'm planning to be online more in the immediate future. Also have worked with copyvio patrol and have done the oddball GA review. Looking forward to help, and happy to discuss any questions. Thanks! Bgv. (talk) 21:09, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I always wanted to review new pages since I became familiar with Wikipedia and had a good behaviour. I also got motivated to post this request when I was granted to the autopatrolled user right without applying for it (an administrator decided it voluntarily). I'll check specially the last pages on "New Pages", which are at the end of the queue, to improve those articles and helping new users by telling the mistakes they have. Thanks in advance. I was a new page reviewer until earlier this month. As my curation log suggests, while this wasn't the focus of my wikiediting, I occasionally dipped into the backlog to review new articles, a fair few of which I draftified or sent to AfD (so they weren't all easy!). I think my reviews were adequately accurate to demonstrate my suitability for the permission, and I'd like to continue helping to reduce the backlog as my wikiediting time allows. Thanks!      Not done. Pending changes is generally for accounts that routinely edit, and with only 18 edits this year, you don't really have much of a track record to look at. I also see that you don't have much recent experience with dealing with vandalism, which is something that is necessary to obtain this right. I suggest waiting some time to establish a track record of editing and properly dealing with vandalism before re-applying. The Night Watch (talk) 15:40, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some very high quality articles (Aston Martin DB9 FA and Aston Martin Rapide at FAC) so I am very familiar with what content is reliable and what is not. I have reverted vandalism (in fact, reverting vandalism was the first edit I made) and whenever i seen vandalism, I take extreme pride in reverting it. Best 750h+ 13:28, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:750h+ . Nice seeing you here! From a quick look at your contributions, it seems like you usually don't leave a warning when reverting vandalism nor an semi-automated edit summary. It's very easy to do with tools like WP:Twinkle. Could you start warning editors? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 12:46, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have watched listed several article that have been protected as "pending changes" such as Charizard and Woody (Toy Story) and I would love to have an option to accept their edits if its constructive. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 01:27, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Rollback

    User:Myrealnamm

    Hi there,

I am requesting rollback rights so I can revert vandalism faster. I've been using Twinkle and reverting vandalism for more than a month now and I finally feel like it's the time. Around last month I've requested Rollback rights but it got declined because I had limited experience in reverting vandalism. I now have over 200 mainspace edits, reverting for more than a month now, and only this that might count as edit warring. Having rollback rights would give me access to tools such as AntiVandal which will help me revert vandalism easier. Myrealnamm (💬talk · ✏️contribs) 21:27, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and yes, constantly warning users about their edits (unless they've vandalized past their fourth or 4im warning, and then I'll go to AIV). Myrealnamm (💬talk · ✏️contribs) 21:28, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm concerned by this complaint on your talk page. Do you still think the edit referenced here should have been reverted? Please explain your reasoning. -Fastily 02:10, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Oh. I'll explain that:
If I recall, what happened was I didn't see their edit summary and I only saw the edits that were blanking content. So, to answer your question, I shouldn't have reverted those edits because there were reasonable explanations for blanking. That was my mistake. Are there any other problems?
    Thanks, Myrealnamm's Alternate Account (talk) 12:23, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see the explanation and that's how it led to this and this. Myrealnamm's Alternate Account (talk) 13:41, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So help me understand: if you knew you made a mistake, then why did it take 5 days (during which you ignored the IP) and me calling it out here for you to rectify it? -Fastily 20:48, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't, I just realized. Sorry for any confusion that I made. Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 21:06, 28 May 2024 (UTC) What I meant was I didn’t assume good faith and check what the IP was referring to. I will assume good faith even more from now to prevent things like this from happening again. Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 21:30, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When in doubt, do not revert. I'd rather that you allow a few bad edits through than inappropriately revert one constructive edit. RC patrol is not a race to see who can revert the most, you should be taking special care with every revert you make. If you're receiving complaints/questions on your talk page, then you need to address these in a timely manner. To be honest, I think you'd benefit from more experience; please spend another month consistently patrolling before reapplying. That said, closing as  Not done Fastily 21:06, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User:Ankermast

I am a German Wikipedian and have been active on enwiki as vandalism fighter since April, mostly using Twinkle sind SWViewer and always warning editors after reverting their contributions. Currently I have made almost 800 Edits here, which mostly consist of vandalism control. On dewiki I am member of the CVU, have more than 17000 edits as well as rollback rights. [4] I would like to be granted rollback rights as they would allow me fighting vandalism more efficiently and faster. Thanks Ankermast (talk) 08:24, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 20:48, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I am using Twinkle, it becomes clear that the vast majority of my reverts are followed by a warning when looking at my contributions. Regarding your examples: 1. I restored an older version edited by two other users: an anonymous user which I did warn and a user which removed some of the vandalism by the IP, which I would not warn as this edit was constructive. 2. Here, the user removed the contribution by themselves except for a blank which I removed with restoring the latest constructive version. Here, as it seemed like a test edit and as the user removed it, I just removed said blank. 3. Out of hundreds of reverts, there are some cases in which I do not warn the editor. These are natural and I can’t do more than making the promise that like now, I am going to warn every vandal, to the best of my ability.
    Best regards Ankermast (talk) 20:20, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. Moving forward, could you please make a promise to leave warnings/notifications for every revert? -Fastily 21:06, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes, I make that promise. Ankermast (talk) 21:27, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am back requesting rollback rights, after a long wikibreak. I use twinkle for sending the warnings, and either the IRC chat or recent changes to monitor for edits that seem to be needed a review. I practiced using huggle to test how it would suit me (without rollback rights, of course), and I think it would make fixing vandalism much easier. if you check, I have a good track record of notifying after an undo-edit, excluding when another editor beats me to the chase. please notify me of any concerns you have, and I will attempt to respond in a timely manner Megabits000 (talk) 03:46, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
