Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/userbox templates concerning beliefs and convictions

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellany page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the debate was Speedy keep, although I believe the nomination to be in good faith, it interferes with the deletion policy to delete such pages. They are archived and so record the debate and process, and allow us to reference the votes in the future. Hiding talk 21:15, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This strawpoll arguing for the deletion of hundreds of boxes is attempting to circumvent the proper place to discuss userboxes - Wikipedia:Proposed_policy_on_userboxes. Please do not argue on the merits of userboxes here, only discuss the legitamicy of the page in question. All I want is for all of the voting be in the proper place so no one misses a vote because it took place in some far corner of wikipedia.God of War 19:41, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep records of all deletion-related discussions, but close this particular one as it's too broad in its scope and lacks a snowball's chance for consensus. — FREAK OF NURxTURE (TALK) 19:52, Jan. 4, 2006
  • Keep. There is lots of information about how people feel this subject and the controversy unilateral decisions have been causing. Deleting the votes is not appropriate. KittenKlub 19:57, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep - I see about 16 delete votes and about 95 keep votes, what is your definition of a consensus? Endomion 20:00, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move I am not trying to silence anyone's votes here, quite the opposite, I want everyone to be heard.. All I want is for everyone to vote in the same place - Proposed policy. If we can agree that all voting should take place there then everyone can be heard and they don't have to worry about votes that take place in other areas of wikipedia.--God of War 20:04, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If we delete it, the votes will be deleted and all the comments. The best thing would be centralized vote, but right now we have to deal with 4 differents deletion votes and 4 different discussions. Deleting one enormous page is not a solution, but will make matters worse. KittenKlub 20:06, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I am definitely seeing where other users/admin are getting burnt out by over-exposure to the whole userbox controversy and the deletion scandal attached to it, but at the same time people need avenues to address their greivances. Perhaps that is the proposed policy page (which is more about creating restraints for than preventing the deletion of), but at the same time, VfD pages are contentious and tend to inspire strong feelings. When userbox templates are nominated for deletion, it is only natural that people should come to express their antipathy toward removal of such a widely popular tool. Essentially it's an AfD writ large, as userboxes affects many more people than would an article on the biochemical composition of toe jam. hellenica 20:12, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongest possible keep - meta-deletion of deletion debates is not the way things are done here. Several people have made reference to Wikipedia:Proposed_policy_on_userboxes, the point has been made. This nomination smacks of an end-run, if one were not to assume good faith. I'd rather follow Hanlon's Razor. -- nae'blis (talk) 20:14, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
