Keep - First of all, the NFCC do not apply as this image is listed as PD. The PD claim bears weight, as under US copyright law works published without a copyright notice before 1978 were released into the public domain; actually claiming copyright required a notice. Keep This is the Horta and without this creature, there would never have been any basis for the Devil in the Dark episode. the FUR is perfectly valid and is a notable or memorable scene that is believed to best help characterizes the episode where Captain Kirk confronts the Horta creature for the first time and survives. Keep The uploader has now apparently left Wikipedia but he gave a very detailed WP:NFCC #8 reasoning here Its a legitimate argument to retain the image rather than to delete it. This single clip shows at least 2 alien species including Andorians and Tellarites. And you never see them in a future episode. The episode is about a machine that is devouring whole space systems and this image perfectly encapsulates what the machine is about to do to the USS Constellation, a twin ship of the Enterprise. Keep A picture of a tribble obviously increases reader understanding and the picture chosen seems quite good in this respect. The matter is quite significant educationally and critically, as explained at length in the article. The nomination does not address any specifics of this case, being a drive-by, cookie-cutter vague wave seemingly made without any due diligence. The usage therefore passes WP:NFCC. Andrew D. Keep - tribbles are one of the best known and most iconic species in the fictional Star Trek universe. I believe that having a visual depiction of them, in the form of this particular image, is therefore of great utility in enhancing the reader's understanding of this television franchise. Comment They would understand that this device is a complex cylindrical cloaking device and that is significant for the article. Its the entire basis of the article. This is not just purely decorative. A series of sentences does not do justice without a simple image of this object because the viewer doesn't quite know what the device is in the first place...or that this object can change the entire balance of power between the Romulans and the Federation. That is why Kirk was authorized by the Federation to steal this device...something which this image caption shows him about to do. --Leoboudv (talk) 08:31, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Images passes WP:NFCC #8 since it significantly "increase[s] [a] readers' understanding of the article topic"--the Tholian Web--by giving a visual identification of this object which is about to trap the Enterprise. The omission of this single image would be detrimental to a viewer's understanding of the premise of the episode Tholian Web--since the web is made of energy web--something which the caption clearly shows. Keep Meets WP:NFCC #8 since it physically shows the transferrence of Kirk's consciousness to Janice Lester. It significantly increases a readers understanding of the article topic with a single image, and its omission would be detrimental to a viewer's understanding of the premise of the Turnabout Intruder episode. Delete. I do not agree with Leoboudv's view that this image offers anything of significance to the reader. There is nothing depicted in the image that is not already conveyed in the text. Note that it passed a review: Wikipedia:Non-free_content_review/Archive_72#File:STWhomGods_Destroy.jpg but I disagree--I do not think this enhances understanding enough to justify it, nor do most screenshots. I think that screenshots should only pass if the image itself is discussed--such as how a costume looked or a special effect was achieved. Choosing a screenshot from the middle of an episode is almost never actually educational, just adding some nice flair.
