Benes decrees[edit]

someone copypaste moved Benes decrees to Beneš decrees. The new title is not acceptable as it contains a char not is iso-8859-1 (a lot of browsers treat iso-8859-1 as windows-1252 so the char is shown). can an admin please merge the history of the two versions and put the page back at the old name. Plugwash 00:56, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've listed it at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen, since the histories can't be merged for now. dbenbenn | talk 22:49, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Help with move needed from an admin[edit]

I wish to move Lancaster to Lancaster, Lancashire and then merge the changes that have been made on the page Lancaster, Lancashire/cockup. This mess is the result of a cutnpaste move. Please could an admin move Lancaster to Lancaster, Lancashire for me so that the edit history is retained? Thanks. Lupin 02:00, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

This should be dealt with at WP:RM. violet/riga (t) 12:19, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Strange, the message I got when I failed to move the page directed me here as a possible source of help. Anyway, it appears to have been sorted out now. Lupin 13:56, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Help with move[edit]

The Battle Of Hafrsfjord should be Battle of Hafrsfjord (std Wikipedia naming). Due to the edit history this is not possible for me to do. A discussion should not be needed, this is standard naming policy. -- Egil 05:15, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Also need Help with move[edit]

Ahoy. Preface: There are two Human Torches in the fictional Marvel Universe. There is the Human Torch created in 1938, and the Human Torch created in 1962 (Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four). Originally, the 1962 Human Torch was simply listed as Human Torch, while the 1938 character was listed as the Original Human Torch. I felt that the Original Human Torch should simply be Human Torch, while the Human Torch should be Human Torch (Johnny Storm). I was bold and redirected Human Torch to Human Torch (Johnny Storm). Then I tried to redirect Original Human Torch to Human Torch, and couldn't. Now it makes perfect sense why.

To be safe I went through every single page that linked to Human Torch and edited it so that it goes directly to Human Torch (Johnny Storm), except in cases where it was clear the author was refering to the 1938 character. This should make it safe to redirect Original Human Torch to Human Torch, but obviously that isn't up to me.

Any help would certainly be splendid.

help w/move 3[edit]

attempting to move U.S. Iraq War to 2003 invasion of Iraq, produced duplicate page error. 2003 invasion of Iraq was recently moved to u.s. iraq war, against consensus, i am attempting to move it back to the status quo. Kevin Baastalk: new 04:38, 2005 Apr 30 (UTC)

We apparently have a unilateral page move, with no prior discussion, from 2003 Invasion of Iraq to U.S. Iraq War, followed by a cut-and-paste move to 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq (or maybe there was an intermediate stopover at U.S. Iraq War 2003). I hope someone can untangle this mess. The text is (at this moment) at 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, which used to be a redirect, but the article's history was left stranded at U.S. Iraq War 2003, and I can't figure out where the archived talk is now. Ideally, we would go back to the status quo before all this inappropriate activity: The article at 2003 Invasion of Iraq, its history intact, the talk there and with archives accessible, and the other titles as redirects. Then anyone who wants it at a different title can bring up a proposal on the talk page and/or WP:RM. JamesMLane 07:40, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Another Iraq move problem[edit]

The article title "2003 Invasion of Iraq" was criticized by some, and a poll was begun on the talk page on possible alternatives. A day or two ago, while the discussion continued, there was a unilateral move of the article, which prompted someone who objected to the move to do a cut-and-paste move to a title he preferred (see discussion above). Violet/Riga patiently unscrambled the mess, and added an admonition on the talk page: "The current article name (2003 Invasion of Iraq) should not be changed without a lot of discussion...." This sound advice was ignored. Now we have yet another unilateral move, from a user who (it appears to me) hasn't even participated in the ongoing discussion and vote.

As I write this, there are eight votes for "2003 Invasion of Iraq" as the title (some noting that they'd prefer a lower-case "invasion"). There are four votes for "Iraq War". Meanwhile, a user who didn't comment or vote moved the article to "Iraq War of 2003", an alternative no one has even proposed on the talk page.

So, with regret, I must trouble the admins again. Although I also prefer the lower-case "invasion", I think the sensible thing to do is to return this article to the title it had when the vote began, 2003 Invasion of Iraq, and await the outcome of the ongoing process. JamesMLane 03:50, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: The user who did the unilateral move tried to make amends by restoring the prior situation. The "Move this page" function didn't work, because of the history, so the user further bollixed things by doing a cut-and-paste move. Now the article text is at 2003 invasion of Iraq but the history is at Iraq War of 2003. The ideal would be to restore everything to 2003 Invasion of Iraq and prevent further page moves until the voting is concluded, but I'm told that can't be done without full-scale protection. Help with move[edit]

Article Snowtown, South Australia was moved for no apparent reason by User:Susvolans to Snowtown and then moved to Snowtown - South Australia by User:Brookie. I am unable to move it back to its original and correct name. Could an administrator please moved it back to Snowtown, South Australia as per naming conventions? -- Cyberjunkie 15:47, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Clear up Confusion on a Move[edit]

I wanted to add to the article on 'Cat-Scratch Disease' (not the album) but I noticed it was on wiki under 'Cat-scratch Fever'. I attempted to move the page to 'Cat-scratch Disease' but encountered problems. There are a few pages that link to 'cat-scratch disease' and these seem to have gotten confused in the redirecting. The actual article needs to be entitled 'Cat-Scratch Disease' with searches for 'Cat-Scratch Fever' or other variations in spelling such as 'cat-scratch disease' or cat scratch disease' etc forwarding to this page. There might also need to be a disambiguation page to distinguish between the album and the disease. If somebody could address this I would be grateful, as I am new to Wikipedia and don't feel experienced enough to manage the edits myself. --Shastrix 15:56, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Move merged article[edit]

I've merged the contents of two articles; I created Vaughan-King-Aurora on March 20, and Fawcett5 created the stub Vaughan—King—Aurora on May 5. All the content is now in the former article, but it more appropriately resides at the latter link. I cannot move it because the article already exists. I have already checked for redirects, and fixed them to point to the latter article. Can someone please move Vaughan-King-Aurora to Vaughan—King—Aurora for me? Repair cut & paste move[edit]

Andrea Echeverri was moved via cut & paste to Andrea Echeverrí (wrong title by the way - her last name is Echeverri without acute accents) by Charles Matthews. The contents of the article should be moved back, and the histories of both pages merged. Can somebody please do it for me? --Fibonacci 08:53, 9 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Transmembrane potential difference[edit]

Could someone move the article transmembrane potential difference to membrane potential, as the last term is much more often used and denotes the same thing. I tried to do it by using "move" but seems that it should be done manually. Thanks. --Eleassar777 12:56, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You need to take this to Wikipedia:Requested moves, and go through the discussion process - we don't have the specialist knowledge to assess whether the proposed rename is a good idea. Noel (talk) 22:12, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help merging pages[edit]

Hello, can I please request admin help regarding the discussion here: User talk:NevilleDNZ#Duplicate talk page?. MediaWiki move[edit]

MediaWiki:Tooltip-watch seems to have been moved to Template:Tooltip-watch in error, meaning if you hover over the "Watch this page" checkbox on the edit form, the popup says "#redirect [[Template:Tooltip-watch]]". JFK Assassination[edit]

Could someone try to please move John F. Kennedy assassination to Assassination of John F. Kennedy. The request is already been given to the administrators and it hasn't been done yet. SNIyer1 30 Jun 2005 01:56 (UTC)

40 mm grenade move[edit]

40mm grenade should have been moved to 40 mm grenade, but apparently that didn't work. According to Talk:40mm grenade, the "move" tab barfed saying that 40 mm grenade and 40mm grenade (note space) were "the same article". So the content was copied to the destination, leaving the revision history on what has now become a redirect page. Does anyone know of a bug that could affect us like that and/or how we can move the page history to the new location? Rl 3 July 2005 18:09 (UTC)

I tried it again and it worked fine. — Dan | Talk 3 July 2005 19:16 (UTC)
  • Since the upgrade there's an extra reason field. You probably put the destination in the wrong field when you tried to move. - Mgm|(talk) July 4, 2005 11:05 (UTC)
