Vietnamese Han-Nom[edit]

Please note that Han Nom characters are no longer used in Vietnamese and should not be added indiscriminately to articles about the Vietnamese language unless specifically discussing about them. DHN (talk) 18:22, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In order to meet you, I just added every Han or Nom only one time. And however, it is in brackets. It should not be a problem. Furthermore there are great efforts in making the HanNom Script popular again. The characters have entered Unicode, Dictionaries have been written ... There are people who are working hard on keeping the knowledge of Nom alive. You should not trample it under foot ...--Sky Darmos (talk) 16:58, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not an advocacy site. The fact is Han-Nom characters are not used in modern Vietnamese, and should not be added for no reason. Adding Han-Nom characters to Vietnamese terms with no explanation is not helpful and will probably give the reader a false impression. DHN (talk) 19:15, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It would be very helpful. Someone could see the Hanviet words directly. If the explanation is the problem, I can just write "HanNom" in the first backets ...--Sky Darmos (talk) 22:03, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that "HanNom" is meaningless to the uninitiated reader. I think the only place where it's appropriate to use Han-Nom characters is where the article discusses about writing system - there the reader has a better idea what it is in context of the modern writing system.
