Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Landscape painting in Scotland you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Dharmadhyaksha -- Dharmadhyaksha (talk) 09:41, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I understand from this reply that you wish to keep same reference format. As said previously I am not able to go to and fro and check references manually like this when facilities are available to reach there with one click. In that case I would like some other user to take up the GA review. Sorry for the trouble. Should I ask some admin to speedy delete the current GA page so the article is sent back in the pool of unreviewed articles? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 07:32, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Really?--SabreBD (talk) 07:51, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Dharmadhyaksha, you really need to read WP:CITEVAR, which states that "[e]ditors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference" (see also WP:GANOT). For that matter, it is entirely inappropriate to abandon a GA review simply because you can't access references with one click. If you don't have access to offline sources that are cited in the article, you should assume good faith that the GA nominator isn't trying to deceive you. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 08:05, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
So now what? Its obligatory for me to review it? I am not saying all are offline. Many of these are online available; at least the ones I check. I am simply asking the editors to add them. I also offered to add them myself. What more should I do? Simply say its a GA directly? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:26, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Nothing is obligatory, but if you begin a GA review, you should provide the nominator the courtesy of not requesting changes that fall outside the good article criteria. I recommend you read WP:RGA (the behavioral guideline for reviewing GA nominations), which explains that: "Enthusiasm in wanting an article to be the best it can be is admirable, but take care not to impose conditions for passing the article, perhaps based on your own stylistic preferences, that exceed the criteria". I am happy to serve as a reference if you would like to learn more about the GA review process; please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Best, -- Notecardforfree (talk) 09:28, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate whatever the nominator wants. But in same sprit I should also not be compelled to review an article I do not wish to continue with in the given circumstances. To give it a fair chance I have also suggested to get the whole review deleted by some admin if we both agree to it. I am suggesting this deletion assuming that requesting a second reviewer would have a more holding time than a first fresh review from someone who would approach it without any prejudice of this event. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:11, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks to Notecardforfree for the comments on guidelines. Dharmadhyaksha I do not believe that you should be compelled to review an article that you do not want to. However, the guidelines so say that "Once you start a review, you are committing to complete it in a timely manner" and it probably means that the article, not the review, will be failed and go to the bottom of the list and I cannot pretend I am happy about that. That said, I think you can post in Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations, although this is for "where you absolutely cannot continue to review the article" and I am not sure if this falls under that criteria, so you will have to see what the admins say. In the kindest possible way, please consider the committment and guidelines when, as I hope you will, you undertake another review and you may wish to seriously consider Notecardforfree's generous offer at that time. No hard feelings and all the best.--SabreBD (talk) 12:38, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Am very much sorry for the trouble caused. Thanks for pointing out the committment thing. I will resume the review and find a solution for the issue without disturbing the article. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:41, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

OK Dharmadhyaksha, thanks for that. I look forward to developments on the review page.--SabreBD (talk) 08:10, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
I am sorry but I have been quite busy off-wiki. Sorry for the delay in GA review. I know... this is kinda going bad; firstly the above issue and now this. Sorry again. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:31, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
It is not a big problem, I have been both busy and ill in the real world, so it sort of works out.--SabreBD (talk) 18:17, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Added two comments there. These would be the last ones. Once done, I will simply go through and close the review. Cheers! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:54, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

External links

How can you decide when an external link is "not very relevant" or not? Both changes you've undone are related to the topics and content of the Wikipedia articles, and could be of interest to Wikipedia readers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aristote33 (talkcontribs) 17:16, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

You should probably read WP:EL. The main problem here is that you are linking to descriptions of projects that are descriptions of research and not the research itself. Even then, it is not clear that this would meet any of the "links to be considered" criteria and if they are relevant they should be integrated into the article.--SabreBD (talk) 08:31, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Monday's Child - sourcing

Hey Sabrebd,

Do you still have your copy of the Opie's Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes? If so, could you check your edition and page numbers are accurate in the sourcing for Monday's Child? I know you added those basically a lifetime ago, but someone added doubtful tags a while ago suggesting that either you or they were maybe using different editions? Anyway, if you could check whether it holds up, and adjust the references accordingly, that would probably be fastest. My copy of the Dictionary is in someone else's house, so I can do the job myself for a while.

Hi Sabrebd, your edit to Scottish national identity (this one) has been tagged on User:EranBot/Copyright/rc as possibly being copied from http://www.meophamscottishclub.btck.co.uk/HistoryofScotlandBurnsArtMythsmore57pages ([1]) and http://self.gutenberg.org/article/WHEBN0000013617/History%20of%20Scotland ([2]). Concerning your reversal of vandalism here [3], notice that the editor is using an open proxy. Several music related articles are being attacked by this method, mostly to removed cited info although in a couple of cases to insert poorly sourced BLP violations. I made a discussion regarding Tegan and Sara on the wonky pop talk page. I need some input before adding. Sourcing is a big issue.

I added Robyn to the list artist as that is listed as a genre in her article, but sourcing her is proving to be difficult as well. If it needs to be reverted, I am okay with that. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 06:36, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Some additions at the Garage Rock article

I've made a few more additions over at Garage rock article that I think you'll enjoy. I added some info. about the Pacific Northwest 1958-1963 in Origins (it is now divided into three sub-sections). Then there is a new section, Pacific Northwest 1964-1968, in Regional Scenes. So, in order to have something to put there, you'll notice that I moved the picture of Paul Revere and the Raiders down to the later Pacific Northwest section in Regions (don't worry--it's still in the article), and you'll see a picture Chris Montez in Origins. Under Paul Revere, all of the photos have shifted in the opposite diagonal direction, so I worked real hard with them to get the sizes just right, so that the article has an attractive pictorial composition and layout. I added a few sourced tidbits to the Decline section. So, just keeping you posted. I think you'll like what you see there. Garagepunk66 (talk) 08:31, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers

Hi Sabrebd,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
