The user is asking what is wrong with their username. I don't know so I am forwarding the request.--Sandahl 20:18, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Outoftunewhatever" is a long-running meme used by a vandal whose primary username was, as far as I rmember, User:Outoftuneviolin. Миша13 20:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that info, I'll remember :).--Sandahl 20:32, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I remember that one, yeah. Though I think it's been a pretty good while since I've seen any obvious activity -- since before the whole affair with Cplot, I think? Were a bunch of these registered at once, or was it just the one? I could go digging in the logs, if needed. – Luna Santin (talk) 20:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My bet here would be that Mr. Outoftuneviolin is just checking up on our vigilance. :> Well, my bot was down for a while but it's back up now and has nailed this one. :] And I didn't find any more of these in the last 5000 creations, which cover about 20 hours back. Миша13 21:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a possibility. I'm still a little iffy, but it's such an unusual name to be a coincidence. Eh! – Luna Santin (talk) 10:34, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

archivebot.py @ svwiki

Hello Misza13!

I would like to try archivebot.py at svwiki but something seems to be wrong (probably me :-)...

As I understand it the bot will archive every page that is linking to a certain page (or is it ever page that is linked from a certain page??). It will do so in a manner specified using a template (the template in it self is empty, only the parameters are imortant). Am I right so far?

I have set up at test page (sv:User:Micke/test) that I want to be archived at sv:User:Micke/test/Arkiv 2007. For this I am using the template sv:User:Mickebot/config (sv:User:Mickebot is my bot account at svwiki), with the parameters:

{{User:Mickebot/config
|algo = old(1h)
|archive = User:Micke/test/Arkiv %(year)d
}}

When I run the command python archivebot.py User:Mickebot/Arkivering the bot states that it is getting references to User:Mickebot/Arkivering (actually it even translates "user" to "Användare" which is the Swedish term) and then comes to a halt, as if everything had worked (although a bit to fast), but needles to say the page is not archived. Obviously I have got something messed up, and I was wondering if you could perhaps tell me what? I would be much grateful for your help... Mickedb 17:04, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be doing everything fine. However, timestamps you use on svwiki are highly non-standard. The bot is already very liberal with these formats, but I guess I'll have to account for another one. I'll try to get to do it soon and add it to the code. Миша13 18:33, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great I'ĺl keep a look out, then. (By the way, I really liked the design of your talk page, so I stole it for my swedish talk page... Please tell me if you mind and I will undo the theft :-)Mickedb 18:35, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to steal whatever you want - all my contributions are licensed "All rights released to all text". :>
A side-note question: what does "kl." in your timestamps mean? Is it something variable too or can I assume it's a constant part? Миша13 18:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! kl. is an abbreviation of "klockan" that means "the clock" that is used in swedish, in this context it would means somthing like "at". So in short, yes it is a constant. Mickedb 18:52, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot 3 question

I had some trouble with MiszaBot before, but due to all the great features that aren't anywhere else, I'd like to give it another go. Could you please double check this config for me? Additionally, can you tell me if the paramater in archiveheader is one that MiszaBot can use. I'd appreciate it. Thanks! - Rjd0060 17:15, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that looks fine to me. archiveheader is what the bot puts as a starter for new archive pages, in this case that would be {{talkarchivenav}}, which is sensible. Миша13 18:30, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - Rjd0060 18:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Watchlist sorter

I recently installed it and it is great, but i have one qual with it. Here is a sample output of some of the "namespaces" i got:

Avatar -- (Avatar: The Last Airbender), (Avatar: The Last Airbender media information)
The Legend of Zelda -- (The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask), (The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap)
The Puppetmaster (Avatar -- (The Puppetmaster (Avatar: The Last Airbender)‎)
The Beach (Avatar -- (The Beach (Avatar: The Last Airbender))
Nightmares and Daydreams (Avatar -- (Nightmares and Daydreams (Avatar: The Last Airbender))
The Awakening (Avatar -- (The Awakening (Avatar: The Last Airbender))

Maybe you could have your script Search for certain prefixes (i.e. Talk:, Template:, Wikipedia talk:) so articles like those can be included in the Article section? Just a suggestion. The Placebo Effect 19:37, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hahaha! Yeah, I know about that quirk, but since I don't have many articles with colons in their names on my watchlist, it has never been an issue for me. Well of course the algorithm is the dumbest I could think of and just looks for the first colon in the page's name and assumes everything before it is a namespace - hence the funny stuff you get. Ok, I'll see what I can do about it. Миша13 22:38, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stopping archival

Would it be possible for the bot to have a feature added to prevent archiving of, for example, a section that has a particular template at the top? —Random832 19:54, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify - there is a consensus that certain types of threads on ANI should not be automatically archived, and the existing means of accomplishing this are to either keep all timestamps out of the thread, or to have someone post in the thread just to keep it from being archived, when it's about to be. These seem to me like inelegant solutions. —Random832 19:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As the bot does not support archiving based on whether there is a template included or not, you can work around it by adding a ridiculously futuristic timestamp (like !-- 00:00, 1 January 3000 (UTC)--> - and even hide it in HTML comments) at the top of the thread and when the time is ripe just remove it or archive manually. Миша13 22:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting instead of Archiving

Is there a way to set the bot to simply delete old conversations instead of archiving them? --Whiteknight (talk) (books) 22:06, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the manual - the bot doesn't archive when there would be too little threads left on the page as a result. See minthreadsleft and minthreadstoarchive in the User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo#Parameters explained section. Миша13 08:29, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking bot

Hi, do you use a bot for blocking bad new usernames? --Emijrp (talk) 10:55, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Миша13 12:28, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, no wonder I've seen bad names that you've blocked (or your bot?) are criticising about you using a "block bot". How did you programme your bot? Instructing it to block names such as those containing your name (e.g User:I love Misza13), those containing profanities (e.g User:Fuck the Malay faggots), those defaming usernames (e.g _______ is a faggot), those similar to other admins' names (e.g User:Yamlaa)? And is the block bot actually attached to your human account? --King Edmund of the Woods (talk) 14:24, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not all that difficult. There's lots of good tutorials on how to build and IRC bot; add some regex magic to it and Voilà! Миша13 20:54, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot Edit Summaries

Hello. Can you check out the edit summaries of your bot? It is saying that it is deleting images per I5, which it is probably deleting per I6. In some cases the images are in fact orphaned, but were not tagged as such. Please let me know if you want a couple examples. --After Midnight 0001 12:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All images it deletes with the summary "Unused unfree copyrighted image. (WP:CSD#I5)" either come from the CAT:ORFU or CAT:NR subcategories. In the latter case my reasoning was: if an image has been placed in CAT:NR then it most probably is non-free in the first place. So, if it's also orphaned (which the bot checks for), then I5 applies (I didn't want to make an impression that a bot checks for rationales). If you think it doesn't, please let me know and indeed provide a few examples. Cheers, Миша13 12:55, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining. The examples [1] [2] that I have are both from CAT:NR. Both were indeed orphaned, but neither had been tagged as orphaned and placed in CAT:ORFU. Both images were eligible for deletion per WP:CSD#I6, but, since they were not placed in CAT:ORFU, we do not know when they were orphaned. It is possible that the image was only orphaned shortly before it was deleted (some days after it was placed in CAT:NR). Therefore it would be deleted as I6, but not yet as I5. Please note that I am not contesting the deletion, as it absolutely should be deleted, just that it shouldn't be deleted per I5, because, although we know that it had been without a rationale for 7 days, we don't know that it has been orphaned for 7 days. --After Midnight 0001 20:24, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I'll update the bot as soon as toolserver is resurrected. It would be ideal if the delinker bots updated the image page with an {{orfud}} when it's orphaned. Миша13 20:56, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ifexist limit and User:MiszaBot/config

Hello. As you may know, there is an upcoming restriction on the number of #ifexist calls per page (max will be 100). On pages such as Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), the archiveheader parameter of {{User:MiszaBot/config}} greatly increases the number of #ifexist calls, as whatever template is used for the archiveheader parameter (in this case, {{Wikipedia:Village pump/Archive header}}) is parsed and adds to the #ifexist limit.

Is there a way that User:MiszaBot/config could be used without the parameters being seen by the parser? For example:

<!--{{User:MiszaBot/config
|archiveheader = {{Wikipedia:Village pump/Archive header}}
|maxarchivesize = 60K
|counter = 7
|algo = old(7d)
|archive = Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive %(counter)d
}}-->
{{User:MiszaBot/config}}

Would your bot still work? --- RockMFR 23:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you ask me, it's pretty dumb for the parser to do that if the parameter isn't used in the template, but whatever... That seems like a very smart workaround you propose and I would say give it a shot. As far as I can tell from the code of my bot, it shouldn't freak out, as it draws variables from the first "occurence" of the template (commented out or not) and should also update the first one (when the counter changes). Миша13 00:12, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minor change to WP:ANI archiving

Hi Misza! I notice you archive discussions without comments for more than 24 hours on the ANI board. There's going to be a change to that, and wanted to see if you are OK with it.

From now all, all resolved discussions will have the {{Resolved}} template on it. Is it possible if you could only archive the discussions that have been resolved, nothing else? The reason is that, I am tagging discussions with the {{Unresolved}} tag if they seem to be disputed issues still within them. Is it OK then from now on, if you could only archive discussion that are tagged with the resolved template? Cheers, Davnel03 16:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not right now, so hold your horses for now or see if there's another bot capable of that. I'm currently working on it, but it takes some restructuring of the bot's code and might take me a while before it's ready. Миша13 17:55, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I notice you've just archived topics on the ANI board again. Did you manage to do it? Cheers, Davnel03 19:10, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See the edit summary. It still says "older than...". When it's ready, the summary should change too, so you'll know. Миша13 08:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot's

Could I please have a copy of the source codes? Or just one source code would be good. E-mailing one of them would be great. <DREAMAFTER> <TALK> 22:00, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Misza Bot - No Longer using it

Misza, I'm no-longer using your automatic archive bot, i've discovered how to archive pages by using User:5Q5 instruction manual, anyway it's helping me to understand what to do on wikipedia. SKYNET X7000 (talk) 20:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then I guess you still have too much free time on your hands if you prefer to do manually whatever the bot does for you. Yet one way or the other, why in the world are you telling me this? It is entirely your business whether you use the bot or not and I am really entirely uninterested in knowing about it. Миша13 21:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

I have noticed you have been deleting a whole lot of pages recently, how do you do that? And how would i? thank you, Mcrazychick (talk) 06:28, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since Misza13 seems to be offline, I'll answer your question. Deletion powers are given to administrators (or admins, or sysops) after a community-review process known as the RfA or Request for Adminship. Generally, from what I've seen, users apply for adminship when they've been contributing for a period of months or years, and have racked up an edit count in the thousands.
Deletion is also not unchecked; there are specific processes and policies surrounding the action. See Wikipedia:Deletion policy and Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion for the gist of the matter. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 09:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, almost. :-)
There are two main types of deletions I perform: a) images and b) orphaned redirect talk pages. Both are done in a fully automated fashion (as in, no active human judgement), yet a lot of planning and algorithm design was involved in its creation.
If you're interested in the technical side, most of my bots are based on the pywikipedia framework. Миша13 13:50, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both.

Feature request

Cookies... mMmmm..
And a nice cup of hot caffè latte...

Can the bot be set up to archive when the page goes over a certain size, rather than threads older than a particular age? I'm thinking in particular of a user who still uses a browser with the 31kb limit on editing pages. —Random832 15:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bots?

How do those bots work? I think they're a pretty interesting idea, but i'm curious as to how they work.

A pyrate's life for me... (talk) 17:06, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Um, which ones? I run a ton of bots on Wikipedia. But most of them are programmed in Python using the pywikipedia framework. Миша13 17:25, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No bot in particular. I was just curious about the system itself. Thanks for the links! A pyrate's life for me... (talk) 14:26, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Emerald-Torchic.png

Hello, in October you deleted Image:Emerald-Torchic.png with the reason "Unused unfree copyrighted image". It was, however, used on the full-protected page Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 23, 2006. Can you please either undelete the image or remove the red image link from that page? Arthena(talk) 23:38, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And now I just learned about WP:NFCC#9 which seems to make removal of the link the only option. Arthena(talk) 23:56, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah well, this is a free encyclopedia - we really shouldn't promote non-free images on the main page. Миша13 10:00, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then the broken image link should be removed from that page, and I can't remove it because it is full protected. I guess I'll just use an {{editprotect}} request to get it removed. Note that at no point I argued for the image to be undeleted, I just wanted to resolve the problem with the broken image link on the full protected page. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey

I notice that the automatic archiving at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey uses a "space" between the "archive" and the number e.g "16". Hence, we now have two separate entities in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Archive16 and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Archive 16. How can we fix this? Flibirigit (talk) 07:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image

I gave the image copyright status, and there was no need for you to delete it. I shall report you immediately. SurpluTalkToMe! 16:02, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was quite a rude remark. You could have pointed kindly where I made a mistake instead of making me guess what's wrong. And what's about that reporting? Are you going to call the police or something? Миша13 22:45, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't a rude remark; instead I was more angry that you deleted it when you shouldn't have. Just wastes time, that's all. Am I going to report you to the police, you're really funny. Merry Christmas. SurpluTalkToMe! 20:02, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Is it possible of you to restore Image:Excitebike cover.jpg? It was removed from the article due to vandalism. « ₣ullMetal ₣alcon » 17:45, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Миша13 22:47, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archive Question

Is there a way to get the bot to ignore specific headlines or sections of my talk. For example, on my talk page Admin coaching is a recurring section that will have stuff added to it for a while, but maybe not within the 5 days i set for the archive. Can I make it so the bot ignores that section? Ctjf83 talk 20:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Be a bit creative in how the bot works. It's really not that hard to figure that hiding a ridiculously futuristic timestamp like <!--00:00, 1 January 3000 (UTC)--> somewhere in the thread should do the trick... Миша13 21:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nuku'alofa Temple

You recently deleted this page. However it had several mainspace pages that transcluded it thus leaving some redlinks. Could you check the What links here and let some of the active contributors know before deleting this type of page. One of the pages is a featured list and I was checking it because of its featured status, and came across the issue. Thank you in advance, --Trödel 23:23, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting - were it included or linked from somewhere other than User: or Wikipedia: namespace, the bot should ignore it. In fact, I can't seem to find the red link you mention in the last revision before your edit. Миша13 09:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image

Not too sure where a report of such a thing should go, it's not for speedy I don't think.

The image on the Infobox of Jet Black relates neither to it's caption nor it's licence and so appears to have been inserted as vandalism at some point. Liverpool Scouse (talk) 00:29, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note: just tried to revert it in the image History at it seems it has been tampered with at some point - but that did nothing really. Liverpool Scouse (talk) 00:33, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

key request

zOMG! :P I totally didn't see that "key=" parameter when I tried to activate MiszaBot on WP:AN3 and was foolishly wondering why it wasn't working. If you get a chance, can you pretty please generate one for me? Thanks a million, and keep up the great work. =) --slakrtalk / 00:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a lot of difference between AN3 and ANI for example. An "atomic" archiveable element is a ===third level=== section, which the bot doesn't support yet (but development is more-or-less in progress). Миша13 09:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah sweet. Well, thanks for looking into it anyway. I'll just continue to occasionally mow the grass, so to speak. :P Keep up the great work, and cheers =) --slakrtalk / 22:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to archive User talk:ProteinBoxBot

Hello Misza. Could you check to see if I set up this page right? In two days nothing has archived, and I'm uncertain if all the parameters are correct. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 12:18, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it works now. Миша13 22:46, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! And while I'm here, is there any chance that the bot code might one day be enhanced to recognize 'resolved' templates? I think this was requested on one of the admin noticeboards, and it would certainly be used at WP:COIN. The idea is that resolved issues could be archived a short time after closing (maybe a couple of days, versus 10 days for an unaddressed issue). At present this could be handled by manual archiving of the resolved issues, but some editors don't have the patience to do it regularly. EdJohnston (talk) 21:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there is a chance. :> As I keep saying, this is sorta "in-progress", but I also have this thing called "life", y'know..., so it's progressing quite slowly. But don't worry, I'll get it done... someday... The more pokes I get the sooner probably... Миша13 21:23, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to archive my talk page

Hi! I've been trying to set up MizaBot III up to archive my talk page, but I need some help. I followed the instructions on the bot page and put the code at the top of my talk page a few days ago but nothing seems to be happening. When you get a chance, could you take a look at the markup on my talk page and see if I'm doing everything right? Thanks! Mr Senseless (talk) 22:52, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archive datestamp question

Hi, I have a quick (I think) question -- when determining the age of a section for archiving, how much of the standard time/date stamp is really required? I'm asking because I have a custom signature that includes the timestamp (see my signature below), and I'd like to shorten that part as much as possible, but not so much that my comments don't delay auto-archiving. For instance, can I safely remove the "(UTC)" part? Can I abbreviate the month, or even use a numerical month? Let me know if you can give me any clues on this. Thanks! :) Equazcion /C 08:40, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There ain't many possibilities to shorten it, I'm afraid. I have adjusted the bot to handle several different timestamps (as produced by ~~~~~) I have encountered on different wikis, but if you drop the timezone part, it can't really tell the exact hour (there is no way to specify a default one for a wiki). All you can probably do is shorten the month name to first three letters. Also, it is unlikely that your comments will delay archiving. Only in cases where no one else posts in the same thread - otherwise, the bot will simply ignore your non-standard timestamp and depend on others'. Миша13 10:39, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The abbreviated month will shorten it significantly enough. Thanks for the info :) Equazcion /C 10:55, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking of an idiot

I was wondering whether you could block this fool. He has gone on a rampage of putting templates up for deletion and shows no sign of stopping. These templates are useful and do not deserve to be deleted please ban him before he further mucks up Wikipedia Pollo9087 (talk) 18:11, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll sooner block you for calling people "fools" and "idiots" per WP:NPA. If you have good reasons to keep the templates, lay them out on the TfD page. Миша13 19:03, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
