Voldemort / Morphin Gaunt

You reverted a change I made regarding Voldemort's framing of his uncle, Morphin Gaunt, for the murders of the Riddle family.

On the one hand, yes it is merely "possible" that Voldemort's first impression of his uncle was one of revulsion, and this is indeed speculation. I believe it to be informed speculation, and also that some attempt be made to explain Voldemort's (or Tom Riddle's, as he then was) attitude to his forebears.

The murder of the Riddles is almost casually explained as a result of their being Muggles. There most probably was some reason other than mere convenience to explain for Tom Riddle to condemn his uncle to Azkaban and try to obliterate any memory of Morphin's which indicated Riddle's ancestry. Hagrid

In CoS, Riddle says that Dumbledore persuaded Dippet to train Hagrid up as gamekeeper. In GoF, Mrs Weasley remembers Ogg, the previous gamekeeper. Groundskeeper is not mentioned. That title is, however, used as part of Keeper of Keys and Grounds in PS. It is not specified if they are separate jobs or different names for the same job - however, a gamekeeper is in charge of a property's lifestock (i.e. the forbidden forest creatures etc), whilst a groundskeeper is a glorified gardener. Harry Potter AfD page

Hey John, since we disagree on the use of the AfD page, I figured I'd bring this up for discussion before we get into a revert war. I think we're losing sight of the purpose of the AfD page. The reason why the page was kept sparse is because this is just an information page to let people know when there are HP pages nominated for deletion. When nomination is closed, we no longer need to pay attention to it. Keeping the history around just clutters up the page and brings the focus away from nominations in progress. We've gotten grief in the past from other Wikipedians because they feel that letting other people in the HP Wikiproject know about the nominations means we're trying to rally up the troops to get an article kept when in reality, we all differ on the notability of articles, but this page is supposed to bring the discussion to people who have a better idea about the article in question. Putting up a "history" seems to glorify the page and opens us up to criticism. Various Wikiprojects have similar AfD pages, and most of them keep the history out. For those of us who want to know whether an article was deleted or kept, the history of the AfD page should more than suffice. Please take a look at the article history to see how this page was used prior to December, that's the ideal use of a Wikiproject AfD page. John there is a problem on the Kentucky page. Stevetheman has self disignated Kentucky as an East Central state in dispute with the source I've given which is the U.S. Census Bureau amd the Department of labor which labels Kentucky an East South Central State. There is also a 2 to 1 concensus on the page that the Census Bureau (The Officials) should hold more merrit over Encarta, which doesn't even site this source. John this whole East Central part was added by Stevetheman. I pointed out that it was inaccurate and misleading, by which it suggest that Kentucky is in that unofficial region. Maybe you and Steve are pals or something, anyways I just wanted to try to set the record straight that this whole time I've been using a credible (or I should say more credible source), than what he was providing. The issue, to me, isn't sources, it's the readability of the article and presenting the information in a clear and readable manner.

{{db-repost}} only applies to articles that have been deleted after discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion (or Redirects for deletion, Categories for deletion, etc.) It doesn't really apply to recreations of speedy-deleted articles like Qwux. A note on Dead-end Pages

Since you commented on the Dead-end Pages talk page, I thought I'd give you a heads-up on some updates that are going on. Bluemoose left Wikipedia and he was the one who seemed to be in charge of updating the page. Apparently it has to be done manually; it's not generated on-the-fly. A different talk page for this is Wikipedia talk:Dead-end pages. User:Salad Days did a fairly recent scan of the database and came up with some 11,000 pages. Don Yenko

Since you know more about Harry Potter, Greenpeace or Toyota Prius than Chevrolet's (or crappy American cars in general), I assume why you think my Don Yenko article is some kind of random redneck advertisement from PA, USA? Now you aim your wand and said AVADA KEDAVRA to my recently created article....

YENKO is a recognized famous people (see my added plane crash info website or Find a grave). In addition EVERY Chevy/Car buff knows him. Just go to Ebay and type Yenko Camaro and these cars already cost merely $40,000, yes for a piece of American junk made in 1960's..it shows people are willing to pay for Yenko Camaro. Copyright violation

I consider http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Minerva_McGonagall to be an example of a copyright violation. Its content is entirely derived from Rowlings works. At any time, Rowling or her publisher could act on it. To avoid a work being a copyright violation because it is a derivative work, it must be somehow "transformed" (a technical word that seems to be used). I disagree that most are the same. Similar, maybe, but it takes very little comment to break the "derivative work" arguement. (Unfortunately on wikipedia, doing so violates "No Original Research".) Anyway, I don't see the copyright issue as nearly so serious on wikipedia, and anyway, articles can be fixed. They need not be deleted. There is also no need for pre-emptive deletion, even on wikia, because for a derivative work violation to occur, someone has to complain, especially where the alleged infringer is not attempting to profit.--SmokeyJoe 22:01, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

IDEA, ACL

Hi!

I wrote some lines about IDEA, for sake of fairness. IDEA and ACL are both so called generalized audit softwares. I was astonished that there was an ACL advertisement in Wikipedia:

(1) ACL is a global leader...,

- - well it might have biggest market share...

(2) Since 1987, according to annual surveys conducted by the Institute of Internal Auditors, audit professionals consistently recognized ACL as the market leader in computer-assisted audit technology.

- - ACL is a big sponsor of The the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and The IIA has actively promoted ACL; the survey results have been presented not impartially. IDEA has been dropped off from many comparisons, because not so many IIA memembers use it (as a result of partnership of The IIA with ACL)

(3) ACL - the Product

- - This is presentation and pure marketing of ACL.

I suggest that if you want to delete the lines below about IDEA, you do the same with ACL.

"IDEA is a generalized audit software, a product of CaseWare-IDEA (www.caseware-idea.com). It has much the same functionality as ACL. IDEA's special strenghts are ability to import a wide range of files, scripting tool called IDEAScript (compatible with MS Visual Basic), and functions easy to learn for MS Excel users (much the same)."

Finally about CAATs (in Wikipedia). Please, read it carefully one more time. I have inserted in the article these lines:

"However, the CAATTs driven review is limited only to the data saved on files in accordance with a systematic pattern. Much data is never documented this way. In addition saved data often contains deficiencies, is poorly classified, is not easy to get, and it might be hard to become convinced about its integrity. So, for the present CAATTs is complement to an auditor's tools and techniques. In certain audits CAATTs can't be used at all. But there are also audits which simply can't be made with due care and efficiently without CAATTs."

The references are advertisement to a great degree.

No doubt you will have a very difficult task in keeping the encyclopedia as credible.

John, a few of us have been working on cleaning up the Daniel Terdiman article. I am not the original author; I look for articles to clean up in the deletion logs, cleanup pile, and ones posted as NPOV. I thought that this was worth the work to save. Re: Popups

Suppose you're looking at a number of diffs; e.g. a user made three edits and the last one is the most recent edit. In the history page you clicked "cur" next to the fourth edit so you could see the net effect of the user's edits. The diff that pops up says "Revision as of…" on the left and "Current revision…" on the right. You want to revert, so you hold your cursor over the diff on the left. The popup screen should appear and then you click on "rv". I don't think it's much harder than that, but if that doesn't work for you, try reinstalling popups. --Fbv65e del / ☑t / ☛c || 05:05, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
