Overlinking and over categorization[edit]

I realise your recent edits have been made in good faith, but I have had to reverted parts of several of your edits and have come to explain why.
As explained at ‎ WP:OVERLINKING we only link the first use of a term in any main section of an article, and we do not normally link:-

  • Everyday words understood by most readers.
  • Names familiar to most readers, including;- major countries (which includes England), major cities, major languages, major nationalities/ethnicities and major religions
  • Common units of measurement, years and dates

You have also been adding "parent" (higher) categories, when the article already linked to "child" (sub) categories - as an example Siân Phillips was already linked to Category:21st-century Welsh actresses, when you added Category:21st-century British actresses - the Welsh category is a subcategory of the British category, so the British should not be added.
There are many articles where these are already, incorrectly, linked and categorized; however, we are trying to reduce this, not increase it - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 15:44, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

April 2024 - again[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Mike Bubbins. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.
It was clearly explained to you, above, that we do NOT link to both English and Welsh categories (such as Category:Welsh male comedians and Category:British male comedians) because the Welsh category is a subcategory of the British category. However, you are still doing this, creating problems for other editors to clean-up after you. Please stop. Thank you - Arjayay (talk) 12:49, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Mike Bubbins, you may be blocked from editing. As explained by Arjayay above the Britain categories are redundant, and I can't see what improvement you're intending by replacing "Wales" with "the United Kingdom". If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to use disruptive, inappropriate or hard-to-read formatting, as you did at Pobol y Cwm, you may be blocked from editing. There is a Wikipedia Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason.
Please stop changing locations and nationalities from Wales, England and other parts of the British Isles to the generalised United Kingdom or British. - Arjayay (talk) 17:10, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May 2024[edit]

Information icon Hi 81.77.99.224! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Scottish people several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Scottish people, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 10:20, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
