Welcome to the WikiProject Southern African Music & Sound! This project is dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Southern African music, sound, and related topics. Our goal is to create and improve articles, lists, categories, and other content related to Southern African music and sound scholarship. We thereby aim to increase the online footprint of Southern African music and sound scholarship, while actively seeking knowledge redress and addressing omissions in the scholarly record due to disciplinary, gender, and/or race-based bias.

Guidelines for New Participants[edit]

If you're new to the project, follow these guidelines to get started:

1. Register for a Wikipedia Account[edit]

If you haven't already, create a Wikipedia account by clicking on the "Create account" link at the top right corner of any Wikipedia page. Follow the instructions to set up your account.

2. Join the Project[edit]

Visit the WikiProject Southern African Music & Sound project page and click on the button below. This will take you to the project dashboard, which will allow your edits to be tracked. Here you can assign yourself articles to edit/create, or volunteer to review an article for inclusion in the Project Index. By registering as a participant, we will also be able to track the impact of the project over time.

3. Familiarize Yourself with Project Guidelines[edit]

Take some time to review the project page and familiarize yourself with the goals, scope, and guidelines of the project. Make sure to adhere to Wikipedia's content policies and guidelines when editing or creating articles.

4. Start Editing[edit]

Once you've joined the project, you can start editing articles related to Southern African music and sound. You can contribute by editing existing articles to improve content, formatting, or citations, creating new articles on relevant topics, and collaborating with other project members.

5. Access Project Resources[edit]

The project resources are collated in a google drive folder accessible here. The folder contains the full index of J.P. Malan's "South African Music Encyclopedia", and a preliminary list of relevant wikipedia entries relevant to our project.

6. Seek Help and Guidance[edit]

Don't hesitate to ask questions or seek help if you encounter any challenges or have doubts about editing or creating articles. Reach out to experienced project members on the project talk page or through other communication channels.
