Jung Ho Seok (Korean김남준; born 18th of February of 1994 in Gwangju), better known as '"J-Hope"' is a South Korean dancer, choreographer, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and model. Since 2013 J-Hope is a member, main dancer, and choreographer of the band BTS, in Big Hit Entertainment, where he performs in the "dance line", along with Jimin and Jungkook[1]. He also belongs to the Rap Line, and, as his partners RM and Suga, he had an important role in the composition of many of the band's songs, being credited with more than 50 songs by the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).[2][3]

Biography[edit]

J-Hope was born the 18th of February of 1994 in Gwangju, South Korea[4][5], and has an older sister. Before his debut with BTS, he was an underground dancer, performing under the name of Smile Hoya, and won several awards in competitions and dance festivals, in addition of being a member of two street dance groups, Go Arts and NEURON[6][7].

He studied in the prestigious Seungri Dance Academy, and in 2009 auditioned for JYP Entertainment, where he was admitted and later performed along NEURON, which he abandoned in 2009[8][9][10][11].

Career[edit]

2010–13: Begining of BTS[edit]

After abandoning JYP Entertainment, J-Hope auditioned and later was admitted into Big Hit Entertainment in 2010, where he trained for two years with his two partners, underground rappers Kim Nam Joon (Rap Monster) and Min Yoon Gi (Suga), in order to debut June 13th of 2013, along with BTS with the single «No More Dream», of their album 2 Cool 4 Skool, in M Countdown[12]. Since then, he has contributed to the composition of many songs of the band throughout all their albums[2][3].

Being part of Big Hit Entertainment, J-Hope performed alongside Jungkook as dancers in the song «I'm da One»'s video of Jo Kwon; this video also features Jin and V. Shortly afterwards, he would again collaborate with Jo Kwon in the song «Animal». These two songs were later compiled in Jo Kwon debut album, I'm da One, published June 25th of 2012.

J-Hope, together with Suga, Jungkook and Jimin, also collaborated as dancers in the single of the South Korean Vocaloid SeeU, along with GLAM, «Glamorous»[13].

2014–17[edit]

On December 21st of 2015, J-Hope's first single «1 VERSE»[14] was published on Official BTS' SoundCloud, whose instrumental is the well-known song by american DJ Skrillex and the rapper The Game, «El Chapo»[15].

His other two solo works were part of BTS' second album, Wings: the introductory song to the album, «Intro: Boy Meets Evil» (alongside with Jungkook in the chorus) with solo dance for this song[16][17][18], and his solo album, «Mama»[19][20].
