Here are some tips for improving a Wikipedia article:
For all articles[edit]
- Add an Infobox [Example]
- Make sure that it has at least one category
- Add at least one WikiProject to its talk page
- If the subject begins with "The", or is a person's name, add
{{DEFAULTSORT:}}
. Examples:{{DEFAULTSORT:King of Rome, The}}
{{DEFAULTSORT:Mabbett, Andy}}
- If the article includes dates, add one of:
{{Use dmy dates|date= May 2015}}
(if the dates use 1 May 2015 format){{Use mdy dates|date= May 2015}}
(if the dates use May 1, 2015 format) [Example]
- Add
{{Use British English|date= May 2015}
(may be changed to American, Australian, Canadian, South African English, etc.) [Example]
Wikidata[edit]
- Check that there is a corresponding entry on Wikidata, with a label, a description and either an "instance of" or "subclass of" property
For biographies[edit]
- Add
{{Authority control}}
near the foot of the article (don't worry if it is not visible in the article, for now) [Example] - Add one or more of the following categories, as applicable:
- A year of birth category
- A year of death category
- One or more "people from [place]" categories [Example]
- Category:Living people
- Category:Year of birth missing
- Category:Year of birth missing (living people)
- Category:Place of birth missing
- Category:Place of birth missing (living people)
- Category:Year of death missing
- Category:Place of death missing
Wikidata for biographies[edit]
- Check if the subject has a VIAF, ORCID, ISNI or similar identifier, and add it to their Wikidata entry
- You must be sure it applies to your subject, and not someone else with a similar name.
- Add as many as possible of the following to the Wikidata entry:
- Given name
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Date of death
- Place of death
- Occupation
- Official website
For places[edit]
- Add coordinates
