History[edit]
Founding:[edit]
The Farm Group was founded as The Farm Post Production Ltd in 1998 by Nicky Sargent and Vikki Dunn. They opened the first facility, ‘The Farm’, on Soho Square in London.
Expansion:[edit]
After opening ‘The Farm’ on Soho Square, ‘The Shed’ opened shortly afterwards on Dean Street later in January 1999, mainly catering for off-line video editing using Avid technology.
2000 saw the company open ‘Home’ on Richmond Buildings, just off Dean Street in Soho. ‘Home’ was London’s first full service HD TV post production facility. Due to the success of ‘Home’ and its other facilities, The Farm Group opened ‘Uncle’ in 2003, opposite the original BBC Television Centre in White City. Uncle’s name was a mirror of the BBC’s nickname Auntie. As the huge Westfield London White City complex began construction in 2007, Uncle was re-located and increased in size to a newly fitted 20,000 sq/ft building on Livonia St. W1.
In 2013, The Farm Group opened ‘William’ a 15,000 sq/ft facility located in William Blake House, so named as it occupies the sight of the birth place of the artist William Blake.
In 2016 with The Farm’s original building on Soho Square being re-developed for residential] use, the Group moved into their new headquarters on Newman Street. The new 33,000 sq/ft facility enabled ‘The Farm’ to become London’s first full service UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos facility.
Regional Expansions:[edit]
Los Angeles: In 2011, The Farm Group opened their LA facility, ‘Farm LA’.
Salford: In 2011, The Farm Group was awarded the contract to provide operational and technical services to BBC North located at Media City in Salford.
Bristol: In 2004, The Farm Group opened ‘Reality Lab’ at Bristol Paintworks. In 2013, The Farm’s Bristol operations moved to The Bristol Bottle Yard studios. In 2016, The Farm Group opened a new facility on Whiteladies Road. In 2019, The Farm relocated its Bristol operations into a 10,000 sq/ft space in Grade II listed building Edgecumbe Hall.[1]
Manchester: In 2018, opened facility ‘Farm Manchester’, located in the ABC building[2], near old Granada Studios.
