Martians came to earth a century ago, they shared their information of technology and communication with us and helped us create new tech and better forms of communicating. They "spoke" ( I put quotations because they speak telepathically, duh. ) with us and told us of previous attempts of invasion of their planet by other aliens, they didn't share much detail but in short they said they literally obliterated them. They continued to ally with us until 2003 when they had to leave without giving us reason, we presumed they left because of something much bigger and more important than us tiny little humans.
