Kwon Soon-young (Hangul: 권순영), also known as Hoshi (Hangul: 호시), is a South Korean singer and dancer under Pledis Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group SEVENTEEN. He is the main dancer and the leader of the Performance Team.

Biography[edit]

The meaning behind his real name is that Kwon means ‘power’, Soon means ‘innocent and Young means ‘glorious’. It means to be powerful by being innocent and glorious. He thinks he’s a powerful team leader for the Performance team.

His stage name Hoshi (호시) means "gaze of the tiger" and was made by combining two Korean words: "horang" (tiger) and "shison" (gaze). He chose this name because he feels he turns into a tiger when he's on stage.

He has an older sister.

He is a black belt in Taekwondo and was a Taekwondo champion when he was young. He says Taekwon poses are similar to dance moves and that’s how he became interested in dancing. When he was in middle school, he created his own dance club and participated in competitions and won first in city competition. He got casted by participating in the district competition.

In 2017 it was announced that he had been accepted into the "Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Arts".

He is fluent in Korean and Japanese, he also speaks basic Mandarin.

In August 2017 he was diagnosed with enteritis (inflammation of the small intestine). In November 2018, his agency announced that he had dislocated his shoulder during one of the group's concerts, but that he had already received attention.[1]

Career[edit]

He is a member of the agency "PLEDIS Entertainment".

Since 2015, he is part of the South Korean group "Seventeen" along with S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino. In the group he has the position of vocalist, dancer and leader of the dance unit.

On March 13, 2018, Pledis entertainment announced the debut of a special Seventeen unit called "BooSeokSoon (BSS)," which is comprised of Hoshi, DK, and Seungkwan. The sub-unit debuted in mid-March with the song "Just Do It."[2]
