The Derailment of Shangye-Yuehou New Trunk Line (上越新幹線脱線事故) , is a train derailed in October 23, 2004 as earthquakes occurred in Zhongyue, Xinxi County, Japan. Summary[edit]

At JST 17:56 October 23, 2004, an earthquake occurred, the epicenter near the train carrying about 155 passengers currently running at the place between Puzuo Station and Changgang Station of Shangye-Yuehou New Trunk Line, which also called "Shangyue Xingganxian" (上越新幹線),the north entrance of Longguo Tunnel, which heading for Xinxi from Dongjing with train number of "Zhulu 325 (とき325号)", 8 of 10 coaches were derailed, except coach 6 and coach 7.Grjgt893u34 (talk) 22:51, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As the earthquake occurred, the trains were running with a speed of 200 km/h for Changgang, the emergency braking system started to work immediately at the alert of the earthquake. This is the first derailment of New Trunk Line ever since the operation of Donghaidao New Trunk Line in October 1964.Grjgt893u34 (talk) 22:51, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Aftermath[edit]

The aftershocks continued to occur at Xinxi region afterward, causing great difficulty in cleaning derailment wrecks. At November 18, 2004, the train wreck had been cleared and operations were resumed on December 28. Due to severe damage, the train was abondoned from service in February 25, 2005, and replaced by E2 Series New Trunk LineGrjgt893u34 (talk) 22:51, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Investigation[edit]
