:Hog Farm has been on Wikipedia less than a year, but has hit it like a storm. They already have 45 GAs, 4 ACRs and a Featured article to their credit. They are so active that this count probably needs checking since their nomination back in September. At the same time, they have somehow managed to review over 200 GANs, which is probably worthy of an "Eddy" all on its own. Naturally they are just as busy with ACR, FAC reviews and in a range of activities which I shall refer to as "advanced Wikignoming", such as becoming a minor expert on [[WP:NGEO]]. Frankly I don't know how they do it. HF is clearly an administrator in the making; meanwhile, an EotW award seems the least we can do as a community to recognize their immense contributions to both content creation and to keeping things ticking behind the scenes. Did I forget to mention that as well as all of this they are ridiculously modest?

14 AfDs in 24 hours in one category is too much

Can you please slow down the frequency of your Kentucky AfDs? I can't even get around to reading them all, let alone doing any research for them. I don't mind you filing AfDs, but so many in such a short time (14 articles in 24 hours!) doesn't allow anyone sufficient time to address those AfDs in any depth. Please slow down, or meter your AfD nominating and spread them out over time. Normal Op (talk) 18:22, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Normal Op: I won't nominate anymore today (my server time, not UTC). However, most of these are fairly obvious. The most recent ones (after the group with Lick in the title earlier) are mostly things that I found clear definitions of as churches. I'll try to keep the daily number much lower in the future, but since the same user created literally hundreds of Kentucky articles that are very bad (including at least two places that are actually tiny ponds), there's gonna be a bunch of them. A few of their "towns" are clearly notable streams or NRHP properties, so I've been rewriting/redirecting them. Hog Farm Bacon 18:58, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

      • @Normal Op: Sorry, I got really bored today and forgot about that. I'll wait some time before I'll nominate any more. What sounds like a decent pause on these to you? I've tried to be much more thorough on the later ones, I'd gotten pretty lazy with some of them. I've got newspapers.com access through the Wikipedia Library now, so if you want me to look in there for anything look up for you, I'm willing to. I'm a person who tries to keep their word, so I feel bad about forgetting about my slowdown promise. Also will withdraw ones that you prove me wrong.         • When I'm nominating AfDs (or PRODing) in a single subject area, I don't do any more than three at a time. Once those are closed, I'll go back to the subject area (or my "to do list") and do three more. An AfD forces people who are interested in a subject to stop what they're doing and research for your AfD, and they only have 7 days to fit it into their schedule. This particular type of research is a lot of work. I spent hours researching the 3 or so I did so far. There's no way I can do another 21 in 7 days. At this point, I've just given up because I can't keep up with your speed. I'm archiving copies of the articles you nominate for later research and possibly add notations in their respective county articles. If you had nominated, say, three for the week... then I could look at those in present time. Enjoy making the rounds of all 120 counties in Kentucky.           • @Normal Op: Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I'll wait until these mostly process through before nominating any further. I've gone through Fulton, Hickman, Carlisle, Ballard, McCracken, Graves, Calloway, Marshall, Livingston, and Trigger and am taking a pause in the middle of Lyon. Several counties did not have any really blatant ones. There's been a number or borderline ones, but I've left most of those alone. These are each from a different continent - to establish common usage, including one from the US. HMS Hermione (1782) GAR

Thank you very much for listing the Hermione at GAR. I'd never heard of the Hermione before but saw it listed on WT:MILHIST so thought I would help. The article is in much better shape now after you listed it, which is what the process should absolutely be aiming for. Thanks also to Kirk! (talk · contribs) for doing all of the work on the citations. Sadly it seems to be increasingly rare these days on Wikipedia when a number of different editors come together just to improve an article for no other reason than just to improve the article. Swains Lock

@Hog Farm: Thank you for reviewing Swains Lock. I have patterned it after Pennyfield Lock. It is a different world from 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment, but I go back and forth between the Civil War and Maryland. I have upgraded to a new OS for my Mac—and lost Microsoft Office for now. WikiCup 2020 November newsletter

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! Article history cleanup mission

SandyGeorgia - It's at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Mongol invasions of Vietnam, which has been dealt with by the MILHIST coordinators for the same reason it was archived super fast at FAC. Yeah. The only reason that it wouldn't happen for MILHIST is if one of the other coordinators thought I was hasty (I'm a new coord, and the newest editor by far of the various coordinators). Thanks. I just, sadly, placed a notice on the talk page of Daylight saving time. That's an important article, and it's at FA, but there's some issues there. Hopefully they get addressed. I'd much rather have the article at the FA standards than have to see it demoted, but if we want FA to mean something, we can't grandfather articles in. Not as gruesome as war, but still yucky

Hi, Hog Farm. I was wondering if I could interest you in venturing outside of your normal realm. I will COMPLETELY understand if you are too busy, and there are several others I can ask (looking next at Harrias of the fine prose :). Ajpolino has been working up his first FAC at Buruli ulcer for several months. We only need a non-medical editor to look at it and opine whether it is lay-reader friendly; that is, does not have more than necessary medical jargon. Nothing like a full review ... just, yes, it's intelligible to a non-medical person and ready for FAC, or no it's too hard to understand. Noted and appreciated

I didn't want to let this pass by without a note of thanks and appreciation. Working at FAR often seems thankless, but on the other hand, it feels good to save a star for someone who slaved over that article years ago, as we do today on our articles, and to help a few not turn into black goo on the Internet. Once we let them go, they only get worse. I guess Blenheim was in worse shape than any of us realized, but kudos for going from this which passed FAC in 2006, to this today. Pace yourself, because they aren't all salavageable... this one was worth it.

You've been most helpful, but remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint, and don't let it interfere with writing the articles you are passionate about. The work this year is perchance harder than need be because FAR was moribund for so many years. Imagine if we had kept up, so that each year we only had to go back and review the five-year-old FAs, instead of the 15-year-old ones too, and everything in between. For that, I am so appreciative that some others have finally taken an interest in cleaning out the cruft.

It doesn't really feel like I've been that helpful over at FAR. Just three or four noms, and a few comments about moving to FARC or delisting, most of which were no-brainers. It'll be a few days before the 13th Regiment shows up, as my goal in writing most articles is to create something GAN-able, so I mainly just write articles when I have two hours to do one in a big block chunk. - By the way, would you have any interest in adminship? Hog Farm has been on Wikipedia less than a year, but has hit it like a storm. They already have 45 GAs, 4 ACRs and a Featured article to their credit. They are so active that this count probably needs checking since their nomination back in September. At the same time, they have somehow managed to review over 200 GANs, which is probably worthy of an "Eddy" all on its own. Naturally they are just as busy with ACR, FAC reviews and in a range of activities which I shall refer to as "advanced Wikignoming", such as becoming a minor expert on WP:NGEO. Frankly I don't know how they do it. HF is clearly an administrator in the making; meanwhile, an EotW award seems the least we can do as a community to recognize their immense contributions to both content creation and to keeping things ticking behind the scenes. Did I forget to mention that as well as all of this they are ridiculously modest?
