Some Set Top Boxes (STB) like the Nhens Digital Stream dtx9950 pass thru automatically by seting unit to standby (turn it off) mode.

No surprise, STB box design BETWEEN manufacturers is NOT consistent.

First make sure your tv is on channel 3. If not change to channel 3 then press and hold the setup for about 3 seconds if you still see nothing make sure all the cables that came with the box are hooked right. If everything is ok then try unplugging it and start from scratch. Also make sure you have an digital antenna if not you will not receive any reception but if you do and you checked all the above then try adjusting your antenna if none of this works if you have another tv see if it works on that one because thats what happen to me didnt work on one but work on another. If none of this works it might just be the box return it or call the number that came with box for help.

I agree with most of what the guy above says, but you can get digital tv with rabit ears made in the 1960's if you are close to the stations, if you live more than 25 miles away you should mount an antenna in the attic or roof.

I've hooked my Magnavox digital converter up and it doesn't work--what am I doing wrong?

Not the Magnavox remote, The rca remote controls tv, there seems to be a short supply of the rca converter bax around here!

No supply of the RCA models in WI or IL. The magnovox is worthless - do not buy it. Go to Best Buy and buy the Insigna box, it has all the controls you want and need.

I Have used this box and had great luck with it. Picture comes in very clear. I had the Rca Box Before and had bad luck with it. First one didnt work and second one had poor pic quality. The magnavox is definately the better buy of the 2. highly recomend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Product

I went out this afternoon and purchased this product. The setup was very simple, the hardest part was fitting my hand behind my TV shelf. The picture is amazing, and I get nineteen channels, including subchanels in crystal clear picture quality! Some of the strongest channels in my area arent even digital yet, but once they are, the channel amount will be great. I have only been watching this product for the afternoon, so I cannot describe the long term durability of the converter box. The on screen information is usefull, and displays rating of the program, wether it has closed captions, and a description of the program, and you can also look ahead on the channels and see the upcoming programs. The picture is as sharp as the satelite tv we have. I am using my box with just rabbit ears and everything is great. The box can tell you your signal strength as well. My tv is old, and has mono sound only, so being able to hook the box up to my stereo is a nice feature, and the sound is very sharp. The sub channels are very nice, and i am impressed to have two all-weather stations. All in all, i am very impressed with this product.

Amazing picture!

was very easy to setup put it in our camper and it picked up digital channels that I didn't even know we had or have in our area. so I reccommend any one using tv antenna to get this one it will make a 100% difference in the way you watch analog tv .

magnavox digital to analog tv convertor

Had to get 3 of these and the one box is connected to a series 2 TIVO and its brilliant! Set-up was easy and followed the on-screen directions. Haven't missed a beat and TV is crystal Clear like never before!

Works Perfectly

great addition for older tv's even if you have cable or satillte, if your cable or satillte provider go down due to weather or power outage and you still have power you can recieve local broadcast, also cable or satillte provider do not offer all streams availible from local over the air stations in some areas you may be able to access 10+ streams with this box.
you must have some type of antennea either indoor or oudoor to access local broadcast.
set up is very easy, only draw backs are lack of s-video output if you perfer to use that, limited program guide, also you must use either rf coaxil or composite rca jacks for audio out( if both were availible you could hook one up to tv other to older vcr or dvd recorder at the same time). could also be better if remote could control tv mute volume and power on and off.

worth the price payed and having

Just bought and hooked up the unit today (Tuesday, March 18, 2008). Between reviewing my TV's manual, the manual for a new set-top antenna, and the manual for this unit, it took some time to get everything working. Using the unit's remote makes switching from channel to channel slow. I still need my TV's remote to adjust the volume. The unit's remote is pretty cheap and I wonder how long it will last. The buttons are extremely small and difficult to activate. The quality of image is impressive and I am getting 7 clear channels (Many stations transmit two different signals ie: channel 13.1 and 13.2. Each has different programing.). Using this unit makes some of my TV's feature useless--most notably, picture in picture.

It does the job

It is a great product, excellent picture quality and sound its as if you are watching the digital channels from your local cable or satellite provider. However it tends to overheat to an extreme level, mostly because the maker has not made enough ventilation. Without enough ventilation the product cannot release exaustion for running it over extended periods of time, therefore distorts the picture after the first few hours of use. This is a great product for being one of the first converter boxes in the transition.

Buggy...

This was the first of two converter boxes I bought, and I thought it was decent until I got my second one, a Zenith DTT-900. The Zenith blows the Magnavox away in terms of its interface and ease of use. The remote control on the Magnavox unit lacks many functions (forcing you to go into the menu for very basic operations) and is poorly designed (small buttons, a subpar arrow pad). It just seems like this product was hastily designed without concern for the consumer. Unfortunately, the exchange-only policy of the DTV converter box coupon program means that I'm stuck with the Magnavox unless Walmart decides to carry a different model.
On the bright side, it does convert DTV signals to analog. It just doesn't make it a pleasurable experience. There are better boxes out there for a comparable price.

Much better options are available

Purchased this product 3/24/08 returned for refund on 3/27/08. The product was easy setup and worked fine until it got warm then digital break up which got worse as the box got hotter. I had bought this for a tv that is on from 6 AM until 8 PM. First day it worked fine, as it was only on 4/5 hrs. 2nd and 3rd day it started breaking up around the same time each day, thought it was my new antenna, maybe moved or some interference. Wrong. Let me say that the day I bought it I noticed there were no openings for air circulation and was concerned of a heat problem so when I set it up I made sure it sat alone on the counter and I even propped it up to aide in air flow. I found that this product just isnt designed for long constant useage as it heats up. There were no problems returning it to Wal-Mart for a full credit and I purchased another brand elseware. Let me add that I need 3 converter boxes and am waiting for my $40 coupons so seeing how I had to pay full price for 1 I desided to see how this one would work. Good thing I didnt use my $40 coupons or I would have been out them(Once you use them you dont get them back).

Disapointed in Magnavox

I purchased 2 units last year with vouchers. I did not start using them until Feb 2009 when most of my stations went digital. Both of them failed after 5 1/2 months of use. The menus display and it scans, but it fails to find any stations. (I have 2 other digital tuners that find lots of channels.) Magnavox hotline said they won't do anything to replace them since I bought them over a year ago and the warranty expired.
