Summary

Description
English: Date acquired: October 11, 2012

Image Mission Elapsed Time (MET): 258458455 Image ID: 2745982 Instrument: Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) of the Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS) Center Latitude: 27.15° Center Longitude: 330.4° E Resolution: 28 meters/pixel Scale: Image width is 35 kilometers (22 miles). Incidence Angle: 74.1° Emission Angle: 33.2° Phase Angle: 107.3°

Of Interest: Geddes crater is known to be a geologically interesting feature. The ridge of Antoniadi Dorsum bisects the crater and in the center of the crater's floor is a large depression with a distinctive orange hue, a color similar to areas associated with explosive volcanism. This recently acquired image reveals new, high-resolution detail of that potentially volcanic depression, including the presence of many hollows.

This image was acquired as a high-resolution targeted observation. Targeted observations are images of a small area on Mercury's surface at resolutions much higher than the 200-meter/pixel morphology base map. It is not possible to cover all of Mercury's surface at this high resolution, but typically several areas of high scientific interest are imaged in this mode each week.
